On the last day of Women’s History Month, we celebrate and honor the International Transgender Day of Visibility. Every year, on March 31st, this annual awareness day is celebrated all around the world. This day is dedicated to all of the amazing accomplishments of transgender and gender nonconforming people, while also raising awareness of the work that still needs to be done for trans justice and rights.
In 2016, the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) submitted a report with the National Transgender Discrimination Survey, in which they showed us statistics and disadvantages for the community. 63% of participants said that they had experienced a serious act of discrimination in their lifetime. This needs to stop.
Here’s some ways you can support the Transgender community, as an ally or a member:
1. Donate to an organization that needs help.
There are numerous organizations dedicated to helping and supporting people in the LGBTQ+ community. Because we care, Pride Palace donates to an organization every month. Check out the organization we donated to this month in order to help the transgender community. No matter how much you donate, you will be making a difference in someone’s life. If you can’t donate, spread information and inspire others to donate!
2. Use your voice on social media to spread awareness.
No matter how many followers you have, people will view your social media and pay attention to what you post. Use your voices to advocate for the injustice and discrimination people in the LGBTQ+ community have to face every single day. It can make a huge difference.
3. Use pronouns in your bio.
The more people use correct pronouns (he/she/they), the less discrimination transgender and gender nonconforming people will face when they tell others what their pronouns are. Let’s normalize putting pronouns in resumes, Instagram bios, Facebook profiles, etc. Something so small can be a huge step towards equality.
Want to learn more about this topic? Pride Palace’s very own Sander Jennings will be hosting an Instagram Live today in honor of International Transgender Day of Visibility. Sander will be joined by two other influencers who advocate for the LGBTQ+ community; Corey Rae and Gabriel Resendez. Tune into Pride Palace’s Instagram today, Wednesday, March 31st, at 9:00PM EST for a livestream you do not want to miss! Click below:
Together, we can fight this abundant ignorance and bias in the world and put an end to this inequality. Whether you are part of the LGBTQ+ community or a supportive ally, join us in this fight for equality. On today’s International Transgender Day of Visibility, let’s come together to celebrate transgender and non-binary people all around the world and acknowledge the courage it takes to live openly and authentically.
Use your voice to raise awareness around discrimination and violence that trans people still face.
