Being young and part of the LGBTQ+ community has many implications. One of those is that you are 33% likely to be bullied in your school and 27% likely to experience cyberbullying. Being in the LGBTQ+ community also means that it will be harder for you to be accepted in your own home and by the people around you, which can make everyday life extremely difficult. Suicide rates for the LGBTQ+ community are among the highest of any group, and unfortunately, they are on the rise. That is why no matter whether you are in the LGBTQ+ community or you are an ally, we all have a responsibility to fight back against all of the hatred.

Therefore, each year, millions go purple for Spirit Day to support LGBTQ youth in a united stand against bullying. Pledging to “go purple" on Spirit Day is a way for everyone, INCLUDING YOU, to visibly show solidarity with youth and to take part in the largest, most visible LGBTQ anti-bullying campaign in the world.
