It's Trans Awareness Week!
It’s Trans Awareness Week, Pride Palace community! Transgender Awareness Week is honored annually in November to raise visibility about transgender people and awareness of the work that still needs to be done for trans rights. Every year between Nov. 13 - 19, we come together to raise awareness and acceptance of the trans community. At the end of the awareness week, on Nov. 20, we celebrate Transgender Day of Remembrance to honor the memories of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.
As you know, every month, Pride Palace donates a portion of all proceeds to charity, spotlights the voices of influencers, and remains committed to sharing essential messages related to the LGBTQ+ community. To support the trans community, Pride Palace has partnered with Stand with Trans for the entire month of October on sales of our New Progress Pride Flag and Transgender Pride Flag. 100% of the proceeds from the flags will be donated to Stand with Trans. Located in Michigan, Stand with Trans is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide the tools needed by transgender youth so they will be empowered, supported and validated as they transition to their authentic life. Since 2015, Stand with Trans has been dedicated to developing programs, educational events, and support groups to serve the transgender youth.
Stand with Trans is one of the amazing organizations that advocates for and supports the transgender community. However, there are many ways you can support the transgender community, as an ally or a member. These are a few Pride Palace suggestions:
1) Donate to an organization that needs help.
There are countless organizations dedicated to helping and supporting the LGBTQ+ community. If you would like some ideas or simply to learn more about how to help, check out some of the amazing organizations we donated to in order to support the community. No matter how much you donate, you will be making a difference in someone’s life. If you can’t donate, spread information and inspire others to donate!
2) Use your voice on social media to spread awareness.
No matter how many followers you have, people will view your social media and pay attention to what you post. Use your voices to advocate for the injustice and discrimination people in the LGBTQ+ community have to face every single day. On Trans Awareness Week more than ever, remind your peers that trans rights are human rights. It can make a huge difference.
3) Use pronouns in your bio.
The more people use gender pronouns, such as during an introduction or on social media, the less discrimination transgender and gender nonconforming people will face. If you would like to know more about gender pronouns and how to create an inclusive space, check out this blog. Let’s normalize putting pronouns in résumés, Instagram bios, Facebook profiles, etc. Something so small can be a huge step towards equality!
Final thoughts: Together, we can fight the abundant ignorance and bias in the world and put an end to this inequality. Whether you are part of the LGBTQ+ community or a supportive ally, join us in this fight for equality. On Trans Awareness Week, let’s come together to celebrate transgender and non-binary people all around the world and acknowledge the courage it takes to live openly and authentically. Use your voices to raise awareness around discrimination and violence that trans people still face. Happy Trans Awareness Week, Pride Palace Community!
